Helm brought its comprehensive mechanical expertise to the 3M Outfall project in Cordova, IL, delivering complex scopes in process piping, plumbing, HVAC, and controls. The project, located along the Mississippi River, was driven by EPA regulations to eliminate PFAS from the plant’s effluent wastewater. Despite a compressed schedule and harsh winter conditions, Helm leveraged its VDC/BIM capabilities and OFE tracking to maintain momentum—coordinating closely with the owner and construction teams to ensure the timely fabrication and installation of over 36,000 feet of piping and 10,000 welds.
Successfully completing the project within the owner’s timeline, Helm demonstrated its ability to manage large-scale mechanical systems with precision and adaptability. The team’s proactive pre-construction planning, coordination for pipe rack integration, and efficient installation strategies were crucial to overcoming the scheduling challenges and complexity of integrating piping systems within the structural steel framework. The result was a high-performance system delivered on schedule over an intense 24-month timeline involving 160,000 workhours.
