Northwestern University Steam Decentralization
Helm worked direct for Northwestern University on the downtown Chicago campus decentralization. In 3 months while school was out for the summer, Helm changed the heating system from an oversized and inefficient central boiler plant to dedicated hot water boilers throughout the campus as well as steam generation to specific buildings to support process loads. In addition to classroom buildings, the administration building was changed over to direct heating. Helm self-performed the critical path activities and used electrical and general trade subcontractors for many of the smaller scopes of work.
