Morgan Street Bridge
This downtown Rockford, Illinois bridge crosses the Rock River with a 500 foot center span. The river bridge is supported with a tied arch connected to the deck with steel cables. A 300-ton and a 275-ton crane hoisted the arch sections into place from river causeways. The arch was supported during erection with falsework towers on each side and final bolt-ups had to take into account the complicated stresses induced by temperature and gravity loads.
