Position Overview

Provide supervision, safety, and technical support to the field technicians. Ensure quality in workmanship to maximize profitability of the Team. In addition to supervision, Helm Service’s supervisory role also requires field work which may include, but is not limited to maintenance, installation, training, diagnosis, and repair of HVAC commercial and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide and seek out opportunities for overall growth
  • Asist Helm Service team members in their performance of maintenance, installation, diagnosis, and repair of HVAC systems
  • Provide back-up on-call support for our team of technicians
  • Provide technical assistance and on-site training for team members. Regularly evaluate skills and suggest development plans for each technician
  • Perform field technician evaluations once a year
  • Train technicians in the proper completion of maintenance, recommended repairs, and installations on large tonnage equipment as well as proper communication with customers
  • Provide response to emergency service calls when the team is overloaded
  • Ensure completion of maintenance within the scheduled month and allotted time
  • Ensure completion of projects and quoted work within the hours estimated
  • Ensure adequate manpower to accomplish work. Collaborate with Manager(s) regarding manpower needs and performance of mechanics
  • Perform quality checks on service technicians. Report exceptions to Manager(s)
  • Responsible for planning the technicians schedule with Service Coordinator and Project Managers
  • Participate in weekly planning and scheduling meeting
  • Ensure compliance of all team members with safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure all quotes provided to customers are followed up on
  • Responsible for enforcing all processes
  • Responsible for the orientation of all new team members including new technician onboarding
  • Monitor communication between field personnel, Service Coordinator, and Manager(s)
  • Work directly with sales and account managers on both new, and existing, customer opportunities, issues, and revisions
  • Conduct site equipment surveys and preemptively identify any potential safety hazards Helm Service may need to be aware of
  • Motivates field staff to identify new potential work opportunities maximizing the use of Perfect ware, Canvas, etc.
  • The goal on average, every week is to have 70% of hours per week to be job charged
  • On going evaluation of technician team on coaching up or coaching out
  • Involved with Managers recruiting, interviewing, hiring potential new technicians

Requirements

  • Extensive HVAC field knowledge with a minimum of 10 years of service field experience
  • Extensive safety knowledge and training with a minimum of 10 years’ field experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills a plus
  • Ability to understand and utilize Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to organize and plan daily responsibilities effectively
