Position Overview

At Helm Truck & Equipment, we pride ourselves on maintaining a modern, high-performance fleet that supports the success of our operations across the Helm Group. As an Equipment Management Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our Equipment Manager with the full lifecycle of our fleet — from acquisition to disposal.

This position is responsible for assisting with the planning and procurement of both new and used equipment, managing inventory records, and supporting maintenance tracking and resale strategies. You’ll help ensure our fleet remains cost-effective, reliable, and aligned with the needs of our teams in the field. If you have strong organizational skills, a passion for equipment, and an interest in logistics and procurement, this role is for you. This position is located in Freeport, IL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze equipment utilization, performance, and costs to optimize asset lifecycle management.
  • Recommend fleet upgrades or replacements based on operational data and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Assist in the procurement and disposal of heavy equipment and related attachments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to optimize cost-effectiveness.
  • Responsible for equipment and attachment inventory database management.
  • Assist in equipment capital expenditure forecasting.
  • Perform equipment internal rate analysis and make recommendations.
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment revenue forecasting and budgeting.
  • Responsible to set up, track and ensure compliance with required annual inspections of cranes, personnel lifts and related equipment.
  • Assist with outside equipment rental procurement and management.
  • Cross train with other equipment team members to understand their responsibilities and  processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in fleet management, heavy equipment operations, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment procurement, cost accounting, lifecycle management and disposal means.
  • Self-starter with well-developed organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software, telematics, and reporting tools.
  • Microsoft Excel knowledge required. Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI and Smartsheet beneficial.
  • Understanding of safety regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and EPA standards.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate with general superintendents, project managers, foremen, operators, vendors, and other equipment team members.

Salary & Benefits

Range: $65,000-$80,000.
