Helm is at the forefront of infrastructure innovation with its ongoing reconstruction of the IL 2 bridges in Rockton, Illinois. With two full bridge removals and replacements spanning the Rock River, the project presented significant logistical challenges—particularly around access for pier construction and steel erection. Helm’s solution? A bold lateral bridge slide of the existing southbound structure, transforming it into a temporary tramway which not only enabled construction access across the river, but also set the stage for an efficient and safe workflow in a logistically demanding environment.

Helm’s leadership and meticulous planning were especially evident during the critical phases of steel erection and pier construction. Utilizing a single crew from the tramway, the team successfully set seven massive steel girders totaling 1.7 million pounds.
