How We Communicate
What is the one biggest complaint you hear in other companies? Probably toward the top of the list is something along the lines of, “We just don’t communicate well,” or “I never feel like I know what’s going on.” We can’t say that that’s never been a problem here, but we think we have turned the corner. One the positives to come out of covid for Helm was our regular video updates. For the first three months of the pandemic, we would have twice-weekly live video calls with any employee that wanted to participate. We’d get roughly 400 people tuning in for each broadcast. Starting in June 2020, we started our First Monday Updates where on the first Monday of each month, we give an update of what is going on. It can be new projects coming up, things going particularly well or poorly, or just general knowledge sharing. To our surprise, we get roughly 400 employees watching each update.
